Stone, thatch, a large fireplace and deep-cushioned seating make up the lounge area, where guests can compare their experiences or read. There's a long dining table where excellent dishes are served, and a wide veranda on which to sip your wine and gaze at the animals, the tumble of hills and, of course, Africa's beloved Kili. There's no wi-fi here or TV here, so this is your chance to network with nature, profoundly.
There are six tented cottages, each named for the hill it faces – Chyulu, Olenyo Waite, etc. All have hardwood floors, Persian rugs, beds you'll sleep well in, full en-suite bathroom and private veranda. The Hemingway and Simba tented suites have the best views of the camp's watering hole – watch zebra, giraffe and lion slaking their thirst while you do the same on your veranda. Travelling in a larger group? Kanzi House accommodates up to 10 people, with private dining, your own staff, a pool, pool cottage, fire pit and view of Kili.
Campi ya Kanzi is the only safari lodge on this huge Masai-owned reserve. Spend a few days exploring some of the major highlights on guided game drives and walking safaris. Track the wildlife and trek to the cloud forest of the Chyulu Hills. Investigate the plains to see the animals from close up and enjoy the excellent birding. Speak to the management if you fancy a flying safari to Kilimanjaro or an excursion to Tsavo East to visit orphan elephants reintroduced into the wilderness.
