About Chamilandu Bushcamp

A tree-house treasure that’s small, intimate and offers authentic walking safaris.
Imagine waking up high in the trees, just as the sun peeps over the Chindeni Hills and the hippos snort their morning song below. This is Chamilandu, a collection of 3 stilted chalets in the heart of the South Luangwa’s best walking area. Shaded by a soaring ebony forest and surrounded by pretty oxbow lakes, open floodplains and lush riverine vegetation, the wildlife is as wonderful as the landscape. Head out on foot and watch baboon swinging through the trees and puku prance across the plains…. Or simply sink into your pillows and watch the wildlife come to you.

Property details

The property

Just like the rest of the camp, the main area at Chami is cosy, intimate and understatedly elegant. The thatched banda is literally metres away from Luangwa River, perched on the edge of the riverbank, and views of the setting sun are jaw-droppingly perfect. Inside is the ultimate in safari-cool with hanging chairs, a couple of low-slung sofas and a beachy sand floor. Outside, there’s a permanent campfire for porridge and tea in the morning and cold Mosis in the evening.

The rooms

Raised 2 metres off the ground on timber decks and with only three reed walls and completely open fronts, these are bedrooms with a view! Each has a wonderful deck at the front, complete with very stylish chairs, and heavenly open-air bathrooms for wildlife-watching at every minute. Two of the rooms have twin queen beds whilst the third has a vast king-size number and black mozzie nets and stylish wood fittings complete the Afro-chic vibe.

Activities

With only six guests at any one time, activities at Chamilandu are usually done communally, as are most meals. The wake-up call is early (made better by tea and toast at the fire) for a morning walk before the heat of the day and in the afternoon, an evening drive and sundowners that can be extended into the night for a chance to spot Zambia’s elusive nightlife.

What you'll love

What you'll love

The experience of being in the heart of the bush in such a small and intimate (and beautifully-styled) setting. With only three chalets, it’s one of the smallest camps we know!
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Chamilandu is in an area particularly well-known for leopard, so grab a jacket and head out on a night drive to experience the thrill of tracking these elusive cats in the inky darkness.
Something to think about

Something to think about

The familiarity here is, well, intimate! All guests will do the same activities so if you like to keep yourself to yourself, a slightly larger camp might suit better.
