About Chui Lodge

Luxurious safari oasis in the dry Rift Valley escarpment
Set above the shores of Kenya's Lake Naivasha, Chui Lodge is one of two accommodation options in the private 18 000-acre (7284-hectare) Osereingoni Wildlife Sanctuary. Chui, inspired and built by the local people, is made of stone and indigenous woods, so it's absolutely 100% African in atmosphere, unlike sister lodge Kiangazi House, which is more colonial ranch in style. Chui is just two hours from Nairobi, making it the ideal spot to start or end your safari and to spot some of the country's most famous beasts, like leopard, cheetah, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and other plains game.

Property details

The property

There is no question of where you are when you enter the main area – everything screams "I'm in Africa". Here you'll find the dining room (the meals are inspired and delicious), the lounge and a small bar area, all featuring carved wooden pillars, quintessential African murals and artwork, and locally made furniture. Outside is a terrace and a heated pool with a view of a waterhole and the reserve. Wi-fi (can be unreliable) is available in the main house.

The rooms

The beds in each of the eight free-standing chalets have been described by many travellers as the most comfortable in Kenya. Add a spacious en-suite bathroom with tub and shower, a fireplace and locally made furniture to the mix and you have all the makings of a luxury African safari experience. Each chalet also has a private veranda with the Great Rift Valley and Mau Escarpment as a backdrop.

Activities

There is no fixed schedule – knowledgable staff customise the daily itinerary according to what guests want. Try a day or night game drive, breakfast and sundowners in the bush, guided walks, trips to the nearby Hell's Gate and Lake Nakuru national parks or a visit to Oserian, Kenya's (and one of the world's) largest flower farms. Or take in your surroundings on horseback or from a boat on Lake Naivasha with its abundance of hippos and various bird species.
