COMO Uma Paro is as chic as it gets and stylish furnishings and eccentric local art happily sit side by side. The spectacular Como Shambhala spa is hidden amid the trees, making for an unbelievably blissful place to unwind, and the pool is encased in a smooth stone courtyard. Bukhari restaurant is a sublime space, with huge windows offering forest views and a central fire place to keep you toasty. Health-conscious eaters are well-catered for, but if spirulina smoothies aren't your thing, head to the bar for a whiskey.
There are 20 stone, wood and tile rooms offering a choice of forest or valley views (that's the sort of decision we like!), as well as suites with full-on 180-degree vistas - heaven. Bed sizes range from double to king and all rooms have WiFi, bottled water, Egyptian cotton linen, goose down duvets and ensuite bathrooms. Then there are the nine villas with their wood burning stoves, living rooms and private treatment rooms.
If you want to visit Taktsang Tiger's Nest Monastery, arguably one of the most famous attractions in Bhutan, COMO Uma Paro will arrange everything you need to make the famous hike. It's not for the faint hearted but WELL worth it. If freewheeling downhill is more your speed (and trust us, it doesn't get any better than whizzing down Himalayan roads), enjoy an all day cycling tour, taking in the sites of the beautiful region as you go. Those looking for a slower pace can enjoy archery, picnics and of course, those divine spa treatments.
A cliff-top monastery, misty forests, and a charming town make for a magical intro to the kingdom.
