About Danforth Lodge

Malawi’s water-sporting hotspot.
(This property has been privatised and no longer takes bookings ) Life at this pretty guesthouse in Cape Maclear on the shore of Lake Malawi is all about watersports, and once you’re gliding across the shimmering lake atop a pair of water-skis (or better still, on a private yacht), we guarantee that the troubles of life will be forgotten and you’ll never want to leave. And of course, if a bit of R&R is what you’re after, hosts Michelle and Howard will ensure a sun-lounger is always waiting and an exquisite 5-star culinary creation is never far away. Malawi is, after all, famous for its remarkable hospitality.

Property details

The property

Danforth occupies one of the most beautiful corners of the Lake and every comfortable chair and sun-lounger at the lodge makes the most of the magnificent view; admire the turquoise waters over a lingering breakfast in the alfresco dining area or head upstairs in the main area for a panoramic vista. And after a long day of aqueous adventures, the infinity pool is the perfect spot for a cocktail (or two).

The rooms

The 8 spacious nautical-style rooms are all in a row in the midst of the immaculate gardens where palm trees wave in the breeze and hammocks dangle under the fronds. Rooms are comfortable and homely, just like the rest of the lodge, and although the mini garden patios aren’t particularly private, it’s not really an issue especially as most guests are usually in the water. All have en-suite bathrooms, pretty terracotta tiled floors and that all-important spectacular view.

Activities

Water babies will be very at home at Danforth; there’s a fully stocked dive centre on the beach and kayaking, tubing, sailing and snorkelling are all offered too. For those who want to stick to land, mountain biking, nature walks and trips to the village are all good fun and led by knowledgeable guides (if you want). And if none of those tickle your fancy, how about a private cruise on the magnificent Mufasa catamaran complete with champagne on ice?
