Gazing out from Dead Valley Lodge, the desert seems to go on forever and it truly feels like there's no one else in the world. There are 20 tented chalets, each furnished with a king-size bed, floor-length mirror and plush rugs. They are all air-conditioned and offer Wi-Fi and charging points for camera batteries and other electronics. Bathrooms are spacious with dual stone basins and a spectacular view - and hairdryers too. Out front, the patio is the perfect spot to begin and end your day with a drink or snack from the kitchenette. There is also a separate campsite nearby.

The winds tend to get very strong between June and September, so remember to pack your woollies, especially for the chilly evenings.
