About Dead Valley Lodge

A chic, unpretentious lodge with the world's oldest desert on the doorstep.
Gazing out from Dead Valley Lodge, the desert seems to go on forever and it truly feels like there's no one else in the world. Yet, you're also only a few minutes from the entrance into Namib-Naukluft National Park, making it one of the closest to the dunes of Sossusvlei. You'll easily be the first ones there in the morning! The lodge has borrowed its style from its ancient desert surroundings with gnarled wooden coffee tables and subtle, sandy tones. Plus, there are endless opportunities for adventure, from a trek up the 'Big Daddy' dune to a hot air balloon flight surveying the surreal scenes.

Property details

The property

The main lodge is covered by stretched white canvas and most of the spaces, from the cosy lounge to the dining area, are open to the desert air. The lamplit restaurant serves delicious Namibian-style dishes, including hot breakfasts laid on a tree-trunk counter. In between the day's activities, cool off in the pool overlooking the iconic Elim Dune, or relax at the alfresco bar. As the night winds down, gather round the firepit and turn your eyes skywards for some of the clearest stargazing you'll ever experience.

The rooms

There are 20 tented chalets, each furnished with a king-size bed, floor-length mirror and plush rugs. They are all air-conditioned and offer Wi-Fi and charging points for camera batteries and other electronics. Bathrooms are spacious with dual stone basins and a spectacular view - and hairdryers too. Out front, the patio is the perfect spot to begin and end your day with a drink or snack from the kitchenette. There is also a separate campsite nearby.

Activities

Dead Valley Lodge is perfectly placed for epic adventures in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Spot desert-adapted wildlife on a game drives and hikes amongst the dunes, or climb to the peak of the blood-red sentinels. A trip to Dead Vlei is a must, its eery fossilised trees standing like silhouettes against the clay pan - photography heaven! For an entirely different perspective, float overhead in a hot air balloon and end the day with sundowners at Elim's Dune.
