About Dixie's Expedition Camp

Tap into your inner pioneer at this simple tented camp, not far from the South Pole.
Antarctica is in a class of its own when it comes to remote, unspoiled and utterly beautiful destinations, and a one-night stay at White Desert's FD83 Expedition Camp completes the picture. You'll spend the day surrounded by the surreal, pristine landscape of the Geographical South Pole, before flying to FD83 where explorers and researchers would historically refuel and bed down for the night. You'll do the same - but in much greater style, reflecting on the day's excitement round the woodburner and falling asleep to the sound of the wind whistling over the High Polar Plateau.

Property details

The property

Located at 83°S (only a little way from the South Pole itself), the main focus of FD83 is the heated lounge tent, decorated with cushy chairs and explorer-inspired motifs - think repurposed supply crates, vintage skis, and funky lamps. Evenings are best spent by the fire with a drink, sharing a hearty, freshly-prepared meal with your fellow travellers.

The rooms

You'll spend the night in an army-green teepee, equipped with enough fluffy blankets and hot water bottles to tide you over until morning. While simple and easy to set up, the tents provide a comfortable night's sleep and in the morning, you'll wake to the sight of endless, glistening snow. The bathrooms are shared, but there's plenty of hot water.

Activities

You'll fly from base camp in a Basler BT-67 plane, before refuelling at FD83, and continuing your journey to the Geographical South Pole. The lowest point on Earth, you'll walk 'around the world' in just a few steps, as well as visiting the famous Amundsen-Scott research station, snapping a hundred and one photos, and getting that all-important passport stamp. There's also plenty of time to take in every inch of the sparkling landscape.
