About Enasoit Camp

A small, exclusive use private ranch exuding style and panache.

Set inside the world famous Laikipia Plateau at the foot of Mount Kenya, Enasoit House is located in the Enasoit Private Game Sanctuary, part of the Laikipia Conservation Project in which ranches and communities work together to preserve essential wildlife corridors. Previously a private home (built specifically for catering for lots of friends - lots!), the house itself is warm, welcoming and totally bohemian, and can sleep up to 12 guests in the charming tented cottages plus a further two in the Pool House. As a guest, the 4500 acre private game sanctuary is yours to explore on day and night game drives, guided walks, horse safaris and even helicopter trips. A fabulous experience if ever we saw one!

Property details

The property

Full of character and bohemian charm, the main lounge and dining area is very much the heart of the camp. It's full of wonderful, old-school safari paraphernalia (think early binoculars, a gramophone and Persian rugs) and there's plenty of squashy sofas to sink into and enjoy the views. Outside there's a large deck - perfect for watching snuffling animals passing by the adjacent waterhole - and a heated swimming pool with an unusual indigenous plant bed in the middle.

The rooms

The six tented cottages are spread out amongst the dramatic outcrops. Each is simply enormous, and the vast outside deck serves both as a chill out area and an excellent viewing point. Decor is a sort of faded-grandeur mixed with safari elegance, with hand-woven rugs adorning the floors and Indian throws across the furniture. Bathrooms are magnificently carved from stone, with flushing loos, twin basins and hot showers. The separate two-bedroom Pool House is set in the middle of the beautiful gardens with its own dining and lounge area, and is just as lovely.

Activities

Activities at Enasoit are fabulous, very well organised and a whole lot of fun. There are game drives, day or night, for the chance to see leopard, lion, elephant and wild dog, alongside excellent bush walks, all with highly skilled guides who know the bush like the back of their hand. Bush picnics and bird watching are also on offer, and for the adventurous, horse safaris and camel treks can be arranged. And if that all sounds too much like hard work, how about an open-air massage or a morning in the swimming pool?

What you'll love

What you'll love

You really do have the run of the entire ranch here, and days can be planned just as you like, and as active (or not!) as you desire.

Insiders Tip

For a spot of down time, pick up your binos and head to the main lounge area to watch the animals come and go at the waterhole just outside camp.

Something to think about

Something to think about

The lodge offers helicopter charters that make for quite the game 'drive', but this will come at an additional cost.

Laikipia

A patchwork of pretty reserves where conservation and communities are just as important as safaris.
