Three broad decks built around a cluster of mature ebony trees are sheltered by the natural canopy, and linked by a wooden staircase. The middle deck is the lounge area, where easy seating and floor cushions allow you to catch all the waterside and wildlife action (there's lots of it!). Romantic private dining can take place around a shallow table, surrounded by floor cushions. There's a fridge, bar, coffee-making facilities, and a hand-held radio for communicating with the main camp.
The two bedrooms are blissfully peaceful and private, each surrounded on three sides by reed walls, with a full panorama of the river straight from the bed. Both have alfresco en-suite bathrooms furnished with a hot shower, flush toilet and basin. In one is a netted king-sized bed, the other has two singles that can be joined to form a larger sleeping option. Lights are solar-powered, and the soundtrack is provided by the wilderness.
You'll want to make the most of South Luangwa's incredible ecology – its river systems, shallow dambo wetlands, woodlands and open grasslands – and Flatdogs' fleet of extremely well-versed guides are more than qualified to do so. Morning and afternoon game drives are offered, as well as night drives – a special concession in a national park. Walking tours are a must to get you really close to the park's many facets, including encounters with wildlife big and small.
