About Goliath Safaris Tented Camp

'Stretch' the safari limits under the seasoned watch of Zim's famous guide.
With his decades of bush experience, charismatic persona and particular knowledge of one of Zimbabwe's most pristine wilderness areas, Stretch Ferreira has gained a solid following over the years. Indeed, guests return time and again to be lead through the heart of Mana Pools National Park by this exemplar guide. Accompanying Stretch on a walk is the pinnacle of a stay at Goliath Safaris Camp, though a visit will undoubtedly incorporate game drives, canoe trips on the Zambezi and fishing excursions, if you wish. This semi-permanent camp offers all the basic necessities and some extra luxuries but truth be told your out-of-camp experience is the real reason to pay it a visit.

Property details

The property

You won't find much in the way of a solid structure at Goliath, as the camp is erected seasonally and totally disappears during the summer months. But when it's active it sits in the heart of Mana Pools on the edge of the Zambezi. The two collapsable canvas tents that comprise the main area are stocked with comfortable wood and cushioned furnishings. The lounge area has plenty of seating for this twelve-person camp and things are kept pretty simple with wood poles, sandy floors and the cooler box behind the bar where the drinks are kept. The semi-open dining area could be more tastefully put together though it has a lovely long communal table and wide views of the river.

The rooms

There's nothing fancy about the six Meru-style canvas tents, though they are perfectly functional with ensuite bathrooms, hot showers and flush toilets. You'll sleep easy on a decently comfortable twin or double bed, with a smooth ground sheet and rug beneath your feet. Roll up flaps and LED bulbs provide a degree of lighting and bamboo shades give you a bit extra privacy outside these relatively closely-spaced tents.

Activities

Thanks to the standard of guiding on offer, every activity is enhanced - a typical game drive becomes an intense exploration; a walk, a deep inquiry into otherwise unseen aspects of the environment. Come for the rush of a close encounter or the Zen-like quietude of a slow drift on a canoe. See first-hand what genuine passion for the bush and sharing its subtitles looks like. The only thing you might want for is a night drive (they're not allowed in the national park), though you might get lucky and spot a few nocturnal critters from camp.
