The Owner's Cottage has no less than three smart lounge areas, with lovely wood-burning fireplaces and comfortable armchairs and sofas. Dining happens on the covered patio - or conservatory as it's known - enclosed by all-glass sides. Folding French doors open out onto a lush lawn, which leads to a large pool area surrounded by several pairs of shaded reclining chairs and a few private tables for open-air dining. Back in the house there's a fully equipped kitchen (don't worry - your chef will do all the work) and an office with a computer and Wi-Fi.
There are four double bedrooms (two upstairs and two downstairs), as well as a deluxe double suite. The rooms are bedecked with thick hessian rugs, charcoal and white walls. Downstairs rooms have beautifully heavy wooden ceiling beams, while the upstairs rooms are open to the thatch. Long white curtains and crisp linens keep things looking fresh. Each room has a desk and chair, comfortable armchairs and a balcony or patio. Smart ensuite bathrooms have showers, tubs, basins and a toilet.
If you're keen to indulge in excellent food and wine, you've come to the right place. There are over 50 wine estates in the Franschhoek Valley, and at least as many gourmet restaurants in the town and on the farms. Grande Provence works with a few local tour operators who can show you the sights, or you can explore the estates at your leisure (though a designated driver is recommended). You can also shuttle between some of the estates by tram, on horseback or by bicycle. Savour the Cape Dutch architecture and visit the Huguenot Museum, which tells the story of the town's founders. Franschhoek is also surrounded by stunning mountains that offer excellent hiking, biking and swimming adventures.
