Property details

The property

Inspired by Japan's classic, minimalist architecture, every inch of the Hyatt Regency is elegant and sophisticated, from the carved wooden screens and softly glowing lamps to the ribbon-like staircase that leads to the rooms. There are a number of dining choices to choose from, including the Italian-inspired Trattoria Sette, and Touzan, a delightful 'kaiseki' spot where each meal is accompanied by a cup of Japanese tea from Kyoto's famous Ippodo Tea shop. The adjoining bar is decorated in antiques and has a menu of high-end Japanese whiskies and sake as well as locally-brewed beer.

The rooms

Tapping into authentic Kyoto elements, each room has framed pieces of antique kimono fabric above the low-slung bed, paper lanterns, and a rich colour palette that draws inspiration from the pretty gardens. Stand-out features include custom-made mattresses and floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto private balconies with views of the city or garden. The deluxe rooms and suites all boast a huge bath, crafted from Japanese cypress, and a separate rain shower. Some suites also feature a tatami mat room for a more authentic experience.

Activities

Just next door you'll find the Kyoto National Museum where you can brush up on the city's long and fascinating history. Highlights on our Kyoto itineraries always include tasting your way through Nishiki Market (aka Kyoto's Kitchen), exploring the works in the Teremachi Art District, and visiting the city's spectacular temples. And if you only visit, make it the Kiyomizu Temple with its spectacular main hall built without any nails. Back at the hotel, the spa awaits...

The hotel isn't particularly central in terms of Kyoto's highlights, but there is a train station nearby and the concierge offers fantastic curated tours.
