Created by a safari company thoroughly committed to preserving the pristine bush areas in which they operate, Ila Safari Lodge is situated on the banks of the mighty Kafue River, bordering the wilderness of the Kafue National Park. Welcoming guests of all ages, with a maximum number of 24 people, ensures unequivocal privacy. Easily accessible from both Lusaka and Livingstone, Zambia’s oldest and largest park is home to lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and wild dog and the diversity of the habitat also guarantees some of the best birdwatching in Africa.
The lodge’s main seating area presents a dynamic and fresh design. Modern, yet harmonizing perfectly with its surroundings, the aesthetically tasteful artwork and sculptures serve to further compliment the beauty of the natural surroundings and river views. Add to this the fire pit, infinity pool and open-air restaurant and you have the perfect ingredients for many quality moments.
Luxurious and elegant accommodation takes the form of 10 state-of-the-art safari tents, including two for families. Inside, no comfort has been spared; the extra-long beds are surrounded by mosquito nets and every tent has a tea and coffee station and is served by 24 hour solar power. Each bathroom comes complete with a hot water shower and a romantically situated bath, set on the deck, which in turn has its own shade and privacy.
Forty percent of all Africa’s water flows through Zambia and the Kafue River, resulting in the area’s diverse and abundant wildlife. With 22,400 square kilometres of pristine bush to explore, superbly trained and knowledgeable guides are available to accompany you on game drives and river trips (in boats with silent engines). Alternatively, you can embark on a walking safari, head out fishing or make a behind-the-scenes visit to a community farm. There are also ample opportunities for stargazing and painting.
The green-minded attitude – you’ll be trundling around in electric Landrovers and floating down the river in a solar-powered boat.
Head down to nearby Chunga Community and enjoy a traditional feast for lunch with the Ladies Club.
Ila is in one of the main areas of Kafue (not that the park is ever busy!) but if you’re looking for the iconic remoteness of the Kafue, this isn’t it.

A magical landscape on an epic scale where cheetah and lion roam free, yet tourists rarely visit.
