The main lounge area is a shady, high-ceilinged structure constructed entirely of grass and the social heart of the camp where guests gather to share meals and stories. By day, settle into one of the canvas Director’s chairs and gaze out over the winding Luangwa River and all its charming inhabitants. And when darkness falls, end your day at the fireplace with drinks and dinner under a galaxy of twinkling stars.
Simple and rustic yet totally comfortable, the 5 chalets are the perfect spot to drift off to sleep after a day exploring. Open fronts allow the views of the river to take centre stage and the soothing sounds of the bush to drift through. En-suite bathrooms are just to the side of the bedrooms and have flushing loos, basins and safari bucket showers and most importantly, that impressive view.
Walking takes centre stage at Island Bush Camp and with such a varied terrain to explore there is something new around every corner. Walks are accompanied by an armed guard and can last from anywhere between 1 – 2 hours to 4 hours plus. Night drives or short day drives can be also be arranged, however we suggest staying at the main lodge for vehicle activities and visiting Island for a couple of nights for a purely walking-focused adventure.
