About Kanga Expeditions

Tasteful old-world safari in a remote region of Zimbabwe's Mana Pools.
Owned by Beks Ndlovu, a highly regarded veteran Zimbabwean guide, Kanga offers a traditional-style safari atmosphere with all the convenience of a modern-day one. In addition to game drives and water-based activities, expert guides lead guests on foot, tracking wildlife and observing the nuances of the bush from the ground level - a rare and special experience. Situated on a private concession within Mana Pools National Park, the camp itself is uniquely positioned on the very productive Kanga Pan, a good distance from the far more frequented Zambezi riverbank. Inaccessible during the rainy season, Kanga is only open from April to October. An intimate camp of just twelve beds, you won't find a place more exclusive or a more magical safari setting.

Property details

The property

The main area is tucked beneath some enormous old mahogany trees, beneath stretched canvas, overlooking a perennial waterhole. An open-air bar and plenty of cushiony lounging space with quiet little nooks, provide ample real estate for between-activity chilling. A small plunge pool peers over the waterhole, adjacent to another large deck where most meals are served. Down a series of steps you'll find the fire pit where evening beverages and starry views are enjoyed, and the day's exploits are recounted.

The rooms

The six elegant Meru-style tents scattered around the permanent waterhole offer plenty of privacy and good views to go around. They are elevated with 360 degrees of mesh windows, ensuite bathrooms and private, outdoor showers. The family room can comfortably accommodate four, with its own dining area and a large wrap-around deck. Furthest from the main area, the stylish honeymoon suite has a free-standing bath in a private annexe and its own dining area as well.

Activities

Kanga prides itself in the privately guided safari. Whether it's a day trip to the Zambezi river valley or more localized excursion through the private concession, there's never a dull moment with your first-rate guide. Walks are particularly eye-opening, offering guests a slowed-down and often intensified sensory experience. Approach an elephant breeding herd on foot or learn to identify species of butterflies. But nothing will bring down the barriers between you and the bush like the spectacular overnight sleep out on treetop decks. Go to bed dreaming of lions and wake up to birdsong, hot coffee and a bountiful cooked breakfast.
