About Kapamba Bushcamp

An exotic retreat on the banks of the Kapamba River in the remote south of the Luangwa.
An exotic blend of North African influences awaits at Kapamba, a stylish retreat deep in the remote southern region of the park. The walking trails follow the meandering path of the Kapamba River, one of the only tributaries of the Luangwa that flows year round. Visible from camp, the clear waters attract throngs of animals from the dry surrounds and dainty bushbuck and puku vie for a prime riverside position alongside elephant and giraffe. And the experienced guides at Kapamba will make sure you are right alongside them, whether in a vehicle or on foot.

Property details

The property

The beautiful vistas are visible from every comfortable chair in the main area, however it’s the long wooden viewing deck at the front that reveals the best view of the animals as they meander down to the river. During the day the high thatch roof provides a cooling shade to enjoy lunch or a siesta with a good book. In the evening dinner is often served al fresco accompanied by flickering lanterns and the lyrical calls of the African night.

The rooms

Handcrafted from stone and filled with colourful Moroccan fabrics, the 4 chalets are stylish, exotic and a little bit different to the traditional grass and thatch camps. En suite bathrooms have the essentials covered and feature vast stone baths the same size as mini plunge pools. The front of each chalet is open, keeping things light and airy and making the most of the impressive views. At night an attractive wrought-iron frame is pulled over, keeping out uninvited visitors.

Activities

With only one other camp close-by game viewing from Kapamba, whether by vehicle or on foot, is remote and exclusive. Walking is the preferred activity during the day but game drives are available and there are usually 2 guides in camp to accommodate everyone’s wishes. Try combining an afternoon walk with a night drive to experience all aspects of the bush from the smallest insects to the largest predators.

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Alongside sister camp Zungulila, Kapamba is one of the only camps in the southern section of the park that stays open during the green season, so take the plunge and discover a watery world of boat trips and walking safaris.
Something to think about

Something to think about

The rooms are open-fronted so be warned if you’re antsy about creatures that go bump in the night…
