About Kichaka Untamed

One of the most expertly guided and authentic experiences of wildest Africa
Kichaka Flycamp offers an adventure into one of Africa's most remote, pristine and wild national parks: central Tanzania's Ruaha. The camp is owned and operated by Andrew "Moli" Molinaro and Noelle Herzog, who opened it in 2013, having spent several years in the safari industry. Their desire is to offer a truly wild bush experience, focused on exploring this remote wilderness on foot. The camp is mobile, and refreshingly simple. The luxury is in the quality of Moli's guiding, and the relaxed, personal and fun environment curated by Noelle and the team. No plunge pools, spa treatments or crystal here, just good old-fashioned Africa, with superb hospitality.

Property details

The property

Kichaka's base camp is permanently situated on the banks of a sandy river, with comfortable facilities such as a covered lounge and dining room, and cushioned wooden furniture. The main focus, however - and what makes Kichaka unique - is their fly camp, which can be set up just about anywhere (even moved on a daily basis if that's what you desire!) As a result, facilities are basic: the dining table sits beneath the shade of a tree or the open sky; camp chairs may rest in the river's shallows or around the fire. There are no chandeliers or wooden boardwalks; just you and the bush, with nothing in between.

The rooms

At the flycamp you'll have the choice of sleeping in a conventional dome tent (about 4m x 4m) or a smaller "2-man" tent, purposefully construed without a fly-sheet, enabling you to see right through it and look at the night sky or any nocturnal animals that wander through the camp. Choose the latter. The tents are basic, though the mattresses are comfortable and the duvet will keep you perfectly warm. There is a single toilet, bucket shower and basin facility with complimentary toiletries and a superb view into the bush (curtains can be pulled across for a bit of privacy from the rest of the wildlife!) Base camp rooms have large double beds, luggage racks and deck chairs.

Activities

There's plenty of wildlife to be seen from the back of an open, 4x4 vehicle, so if you want to spot lots of game, this is the way to do it. However, what really makes Kichaka so exceptional is a guided walk with Moli. This way you can get really close to nature, far from the roads, discovering parts of the park that no one has ever set foot in. Moli is sure to share some bush secrets and teach you a few skills along the way, like game tracking or fire making. If you're up for it, he may even track down and carefully approach anything from a leopard or lions, to big herds of elephant and buffalo.
