About Konkamoya Lodge

An intimate, down-to-earth experience in Zambia's game-rich southern Kafue
Set on the banks of Itezhi Tezhi Lake in the southern portion of Zambia's Kafue National Park, Konkamoya is a dry-season lodge, open from mid-June to mid-November, when the bush is less picturesque but the action is more intense as animals congregate around shrinking water sources and predators capitalise on this concentration. This simple but professional lodge is known for its expert guiding, an invaluable asset if you're keen to see the many wildlife wonders of this large, diverse park. Kafue is famed for its wild dog and lion populations, and for its plains game, including sable and roan antelope.

Property details

The property

The lodge's common area comprises two large peaked, open-sided grass-thatched lapas – traditional Zambian meeting places. Here, guests commune in the lounge (comfortably furnished with cushioned wicker chairs and sofas), around one long table for home-cooked meals, and beside the fire to recount the day's exploits. The structures are perched on a hill looking eastward over the lake. In the evening, antique lanterns light up the tables and walkways.

The rooms

Four large double tents set on a wooden platform that raises them a metre above the ground sleep a maximum of eight guests. Rectangular in shape, with fold-away flaps for ventilation., the tents are oriented eastward, with views across the lake. The interiors are apartment-like, with a netted double bed that can be converted into a twin configuration, a small lounge and stylish African fabrics. All have en-suite showers, toilet and basin with solar-heated hot and cold running water.

Activities

Activities at Konkamoya centre around day and night game drives, as well as walking and boating safaris. Zambian guides are known for their expert training and are indeed a deep well of bush-knowledge waiting to be tapped. Vehicles are always on the ready to head off when lions can be heard roaring or a leopard calling, no matter what time of day or night. You are in more than capable hands with these passionate professionals.

A magical landscape on an epic scale where cheetah and lion roam free, yet tourists rarely visit.
