About Kusini Kopjes Kambi

Avoid the crowds at this brand-new lodge in the southern Serengeti
Due to open in 2020, this swanky new camp, owned and operated by Nasikia Camps, is set to become one of the star destinations on Tanzania's northern safari circuit. Kusini Kopjes Kambi is perched on a granite kopje (small hill) in the tranquil Kusini sector of the southern Serengeti. From here, the views across the plains are sensational, especially when the Great Migration sweeps by from December to March and again in July and August. We're expecting the highest of standards and service that are the norm at Nasikia's successful camps.

Property details

The property

Although game viewing peaks during the migration seasons, Kusini Kopjes is a permanent camp, so visitors can expect a high level of luxury. The main area, which is linked to the suites by granite and wooden walkways, has a large lounge and dining room with comfortable chairs and couches decorated in earthy tones with splashes of colour. On the terrace, the outdoor fireplace is the perfect setting to linger at sundown, G&T in hand, and gaze at the sprawling wilderness.

The rooms

Twelve tented suites, including a secluded honeymoon unit, range along the edge of the kopje. Each tent has a king-sized bed at its centre and a lounge area with comfortable chairs and cosy throws for chilly evenings. A dressing area with beautifully crafted cupboards and mirror, a desk and soft carpets leads to the en-suite bathroom, with a roomy shower (there's an outdoor shower too) and a lovely bathtub at the window. Soft white curtains add a sense of elegance.

Activities

Morning and afternoon game drives take you to the very heart of the action, especially when the migration passes through between December and April and then again in July/August. However, you can expect superb wildlife sightings all year. Bush walks with an armed guide are best before and after the heat, and you can explore the granite hills, which are ecosystems in themselves with interesting plants and small animals. For a unique (if costly) perspective, book a hot-air balloon safari.
