About Kwandwe Uplands Homestead

A stylish but relaxed home from home
Imagine a classic, 19th century farmhouse, high in the hills and surrounded by lush, manicured gardens. The whitewashed walls glint in the sun and a shaded veranda looks out across a tranquil valley. Inside, antique furniture sits atop polished wooden floors and rich, damask linens are draped across luxurious leather armchairs. We’re pleased to say it really does exist in the form of Kwandwe’s Uplands Homestead, a private three-bedroomed Cape Dutch farmhouse in the heart of the reserve. Available for sole-use by families or small groups, this is an idyllic retreat for those looking for privacy, flexibility and an all-round outstanding safari.

Property details

The property

High ceilings, rustic wood furniture and antique silver give the main living and dining area a genteel feel whilst huge squashy armchairs make it homely and relaxed. The traditional kitchen has been cleverly modernised with high-tech equipment masquerading as traditional cookware - watch as the chef whips up hearty meals, served either at the dining table or al-fresco under the stars. Outside, the large veranda overlooks the (fenced) grassy lawn and swimming pool where kids can play to their heart’s content.

The rooms

The three suites at the house are a real delight (and really quite big). Luxuriously old-fashioned four-poster beds are complemented by vintage mirrors and claw-foot bath tubs, whilst air-conditioning and stylish linens add a welcome touch of the modern. Each room has a private veranda, complete with game-watching chairs, and an ensuite bathroom with shower and all can be made into double or twin configurations.

Activities

The Big Five as well as almost 6,000 other mammals can be seen in the reserve so 4x4 game drives are an absolute must! Night drives and walks are available and with your private guide on hand, you can decide exactly when and where you would like to do them. For something different, try rhino tracking, boat trips on the Galpin Dam or a picnic lunch. Kids will love the ‘Bugs & Bones’ walk, treasure hunts and fishing trips - and adults probably will too!
