Property details

The property

The Cape-Dutch style home offers every modern amenity you could wish for, whilst retaining a lovely, old-world charm. The gabled exterior and pretty veranda hark back to another era, one where people simply sat and enjoyed good conversation and good wine - something that you should most certainly be doing at Le Clé! The large kitchen and communal dining area are sociable and fun, but if you're looking for some privacy, you'll find it in the grounds. There are two dams, a private swimming pool and a tennis court, not to mention the gardens, which beckon any time of day and come complete with a chip & putt lawn. There's also a private chef to keep your palate happy, and the staff will go out of their way to make sure your stay is exceptional.

The rooms

La Clé certainly doesn't do things by halves, and the five rooms are unique, charming and beautifully luxurious. Designed by well-known South African artist and interiors expert Jacques Erasmus, each reflects the history of the region, whilst local hardwoods and hand-chosen fabrics add a stylish edge. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms and plush double beds, a spacious closet area and plenty of natural light - and make sure to choose one of the two Garden Rooms for the best of the views.

Activities

There's plenty to keep you occupied in Franschhoek, and not just in the realm of food and wine. Intrepid outdoor adventurers will enjoy exploring the mountains and backcountry, and the plethora of modes by which to travel - biking, hiking, climbing and horse-back riding to name a few. The lodge is a short stroll to the sidewalk cafes, fabulous restaurants and pretty boutiques in Franschhoek town (if you're there on a Saturday, make a stop at the local market too). And then of course, the wine. Exploring the estates is easy enough on your own, though a designated driver will ensure you can enjoy them to the full.
