About Legendary Mwiba Lodge

Echoes of an ancient lifestyle in a boulder-strewn landscape
Bordering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Maswa Game Reserve is a small private concession called Mwiba. And there, tucked among the giant boulders and ancient trees overlooking a rocky gorge on the Arugusinyai River, is Mwiba Lodge. This is top-end luxury in the wildest of settings. The acacia- and coral tree-studded landscape is fed by more than 30 freshwater springs, drawing wildlife from near and far, including the elusive Mwiba leopard. Each game drive is full of surprises. If you're fond of sitting and gazing at the scenery, then you're in heaven – the views goes on forever.

Property details

The property

Relatively new Mwiba Lodge has been well designed to blend with its rocky and treed surroundings. The communal area is thatched and open-sided, and that's where guests gather to chill out in the deep and comfortable seating. Sundowners and snacks are served at the fireside and the meals are excellent. Outside, a deck and grey slate-lined infinity pool overlook three springs that attract a constant parade of wildlife – lion, elephant, antelope and more. Wi-fi is available.

The rooms

Raised wooden walkways lead from the thatched communal area to eight double suites. The interiors are lush, with textured fabrics in creams paired with suede, tans and accents of chocolate and charcoal. Each suite is open-plan, with a big bed, lovely bathroom with copper fixtures, large tub and both indoor and outdoor showers, and a private deck that is the perfect spot to relax and watch the monkeys and baboons play.

Activities

There's adventure around every corner at Mwiba, so don't miss the morning and evening game drives, bush walks and cultural excursions to a local village. If visiting between January and March you will also have an opportunity to see the wildebeest calving. Walk with the Hadzabe, an indigenous hunter-gatherer people who live off the land and still practise their ancient bow-making techniques.Enjoy in-room spa treatments, a dip in the pool, the amazing food and those fabulous views.
