Marataba Residence offers a tranquil retreat set in nature as the unique layout ensures maximum privacy – four bedrooms have been built as stand-alone accommodation with a main, shared lodge comprising a spacious lounge, bar and dining room, as well as a swimming pool and fire deck with an incredible view over the Matlabas River. The Residence caters for up to eight adults and two children, with the team catering for young ones with nature treasure hunts, spoor identification and mould making, arts and crafts, stargazing and more. There’s also an opportunity to take part in the veterinary care of endangered rhinos from April to September.
The 4 suites at Marataba Residence are the epitome of understated yet stylish safari elegance. Located on the edge of the river, there are three rooms on one side of the main area and one, slightly more private, on the other. Differences end here, however, and all are light, bright and airy, with large four-posters positioned to look out over the water and assorted wildlife, and open-plan en-suite bathrooms with twin vanities and splashy indoor and outdoor showers (but with separate loos). The piece de resistance is a roll-top, window-facing bathtub, to aid both aching limbs and utter relaxation. All have outdoor verandas too, for that all-important morning coffee.
Mornings and late afternoons are the best times for wildlife viewing, but you set the pace for your game drives with our professional FGASA-accredited field guides, just brimming with knowledge to enrich your every sighting. Bush walks bring you closer to the action and water safaris on the Matlabas River introduce you to a world of yawning hippos, elephants, and an incredible biodiversity of birdlife. Enjoy coffee stops with a twist, sundowners in strategic viewing spots, and dinner outdoors under starry African skies. There’s fun for the young ones too with nature treasure hunts and spoor identification. There’s also an exceptional opportunity to take part in the veterinary care of endangered rhinos from April to September.
