Morukuru Farm House

Furnished by well-known South African interior designer Sumari Krige to create spaces where families with children of all ages can relax in curl-up-on-the-couch comfort, the Farm House is bright and very welcoming. Local works of art decorate the rooms, and the furnishings combine neutral colours and sensual textures with splashes of colour. There's a sitting room, a bar, a long dining table (where you'll more than enjoy the meals) and, outdoors a heated pool with loungers.

Linked to the main area by a covered walkway are five presidential-sized en-suite bedrooms. All are identical in size, with glass sliding doors opening to a small veranda. There's a real sense that considerable thought has gone into the design here – the beds are large and deeply comfortable (lie back and absorb the bush views), there's attractive seating and the huge bathrooms are decorated in understated glamorous style, and have an outoor bath and shower. Aircon and wi-fi throughout.

Take a game drive to see the Big Five. Go birding to look for the 350-plus bird species. Set off on a bush walk (children under 16 explore the Big Five-free private Morukuru property or take part in a range of other great activities) or go fishing. Enjoy various dining options: bush breakfasts, pizza picnics, candle-lit dinners and memorable riverside barbecues. Sway to local dancers, have a massage or spend a night at the double-storey bird hide (adults only).
