About Nehimba Safari Lodge

Private concession within Zimbabwe's renowned Hwange National Park.
Nehimba is an intimate camp with a classic safari feel. It sits on the edge of the mopane woodlands that typify northern Hwange and the Kalahari sandvelt of the southern region. Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's largest reserve and an ecologically significant wilderness area, attracting an estimated 30,000 elephants in its dry season. Many of these elephants will surely pay a visit to the year-round waterhole at the centre of Nehimba, giving you amazing sightings from the comfort of the camp. This waterhole becomes an especially lively hub for several species during the dry winter months (June to October). Nehimba is just a three-hour drive from the iconic Victoria Falls, so it offers a convenient safari addition to one of the most popular attractions in all of Africa.

Property details

The property

Constructed with traditional thatch and Zimbabwean teak, the solar-powered lodge is built in harmony with the mopani woodland surrounds. A large L-shaped thatched lapa sits at the heart of the camp. This open-sided, breezy building looks onto the waterhole beyond, and is home to the camp's bar and a few intimate lounge areas. You'll also find a long communal table where most meals will be served, though separate private dining can be arranged. Descend a few steps out onto the sun deck where there's plenty of seating to sit back and soak up the view. The swimming pool is a popular spot for guests and wildlife alike - elephants have been known to sip from it glistening waters.

The rooms

You'll find nine thatched chalets, raised on stilts, with views of the pan beyond. Two rooms are designated family rooms, with king sized beds and two additional 3/4 beds. There is also a honeymoon suite, with a few extra luxurious touches. Each room has a fan, tea and coffee making facilities, an en suite bathroom with a lovely deep tub, and an outdoor shower. Rooms boast high ceilings and private balconies, with a wonderful view of the water hole. No need to go farther than your front porch for some amazing sightings of the local wildlife!

Activities

Game drives are your focus at Nehimba but you'll have the opportunity to mix it up with other exciting actvities. Walking with a Zimbabwean guide yields wonderful rewards and gives you the opportunity to practice some bush photography - you may not see the big-name predators, but you will learn a multitude of lesser-known facts about the bush that are easy to overlook on the back of a vehicle. The guides at Nehimba exemplify the height of industry standards, sharing their expertise with guests to enrich your safari experience. Night drives can also give you a chance to see the nocturnal wildlife - from hyena to porcupines, aardvark to bush babies. Visit other nearby sites like the Mandavu Dam and the Nehimba Seeps. The seep is an ancient year-round, natural water source that was once a critical catchment area for the San Bushmen and it remains a reliable resource for elephants for both water and minerals.
