The double-decker, open-plan main area has a treehouse atmosphere, with loads of wood and thatched roofs, and a fabulous hanging daybed. Every corner reveals broad views of the river and floodplains, and the wildlife they attract, from mammals to birds. On the lower level is the dining area, with a U-shaped counter surrounding a wood-fire pizza oven and, outside, a deck with seating, a fire pit and pool. Upstairs are the sociable bar and a few intimate sitting areas.
Intimate Nyamatusi Mahogany has just two double tents and two family suites, each tucked discreetly into the forest. Double rooms have king-sized beds and large foldaway screened doors that open out to an L-shaped deck, with built-in sofas, a plunge pool and an outdoor shower. Behind the living area is a spacious bathroom with double vanity, shower and deep bath. Family suites have similar facilities, but include another en-suite room, accessed from outside. The decor is discreet; the views sublime.
Mana Pools' prolific waters make for rich wildlife viewing, from elephant, buffalo, zebra and predators (especially during the drier months) to the prolific birdlife of the rainy summer months, and dense concentrations of hippo and crocodile year-round. Exploring by 4x4, on foot or via canoe is a major drawcard, although youngsters must be 16-plus years for the latter two. Kids will be entertained by the camp's arsenal of activities, from learning to read signs and tracks to identifying birdcalls.
Nyamatusi Mahogany is owned by African Bush Camps who has been dedicated to improving the lives of communities near their camps in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. Focused on education, empowerment, and conservation, they tackle challenges like unemployment, food scarcity, and wildlife poaching. With a commitment to sustainability, they cover operating costs, ensuring that every guest's stay directly supports their impactful projects, fostering a partnership to preserve Africa's natural heritage. A contribution of $85 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
