About Ole Serai Luxury Camp - Moru Kopjes

Sparkling new tented camp and year-round game in the central Serengeti
Despite its name being a bit of a mouthful, Ole Serai Luxury Camp Moru Kopjes is a destination that's hard to beat. This classic, old-school luxury camp in the heart of the Serengeti is the latest addition to the Wellworth Collection's impressive portfolio of hotels and lodges throughout Tanzania. The camp is a beauty, sitting between two prominent rocky outcrops just 200 metres from the Mbalageti River, a waterway that attracts constant wildlife, including the Big Five. A hippo pool lies nearby too – basically, all the creatures on your wishlist are right on the doorstep. That's just irresistible!

Property details

The property

The spacious lounge offers several different seating areas, so there's plenty of space to chat, read or enjoy a tête-à-tête. The armchairs and sofas are of plush leather and canvas, tall lamps cast pools of light, and local wood carvings dot the space. Meals (expect the best) are served in the dining tent, with its romantic white drapes. After dinner, retire, aperitif in hand, to the open-air fire for convivial chats and, maybe, a Swahili lesson from the camp staff.

The rooms

Nineteen luxurious tents (14 doubles, four twins and one large family suite) have lovely panoramic views, interrupted (unfortunately) only by the neighbouring tents. In the centre of each room is a king-sized bed surrounded by a couple of armchairs and a writing desk. The en-suite bathrooms have flush toilets, basins and showers with good water pressure. A shaded veranda wraps around most of the room – a great place to shelter from the heat and take in the action.

Activities

With such abundance of wildlife action everywhere you look, activities are mostly centred on game drives. The great migration passes through the Moru Kopjes region of the central Serengeti in April/May and again in November/December, allowing for wildlife watching on an unprecedented level. Take a walking safari around the camp to appreciate the surroundings at a slightly slower pace. Chat to the camp staff to learn about their culture, with informal fireside Swahili lessons, fire-lighting demonstrations and dramatic storytelling.
