About Oliver's Camp

A traditional camp that’s excellent all round, from the guiding to the interiors.
Oliver’s tented camp, established by the pioneer Paul Oliver in 1992, is the perfect camp for those with an appetite for adventure. Set a little off the beaten track, beside marshland in the secluded Tarangire National Park, Oliver’s offers basic luxury and a great escape from the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater crowds. As of 1 June 2021, Little Oliver's will become a part of the camp and can be booked exclusively. Oliver’s is renowned for great guiding, and fly camping inside the national park.

Property details

The property

Set on a sandy ridge is the main lounge-cum-dining-area - a cosy and comfortable tent that opens onto the surrounding bush. Kitted out with campaign furniture, regal leather armchairs and reclaimed dhow-wood pieces, the decor takes its cue from silhouetted sunsets and authentic African tones. Outside is a big open fire surrounded by director’s chairs, and further down from the main area is a raised wooden deck for private moon-lit dining.

The rooms

Oliver’s comprises ten traditional en-suite tents, including one triple, one honeymoon and one family suite. All offer a great balance of luxury and simplicity, with the spacious outdoor showers being their biggest extravagance. Hand-carved African mahogany headboards compliment the splendid horizon views from the deck of your private veranda. Once tucked into your king-sized bed, only canvas separates you from the wild surroundings - a rather thrilling feeling.

Activities

The park offers game drives twice daily as well as nocturnal excursions that reveal all the secrets of the dark. If you do want to take to the skies, a hot air balloon safari can be pre-arranged.

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Ask for one of the rooms at the front of camp – they have fewer trees and bushes in front of them and great views across the landscape unfolding in the distance.
Something to think about

Something to think about

The main area is an enormous, two-tiered wooden structure and can feel a little impersonal at times. We say stick to the camp fire and the beautiful viewing decks for your evening sundowners.

The impact of your stay

Oliver's Camp is owned by Asilia Africa who pioneers sustainable investments in vulnerable East African wilderness areas, fostering conservation economies for local communities and increasing biodiversity. Through collaboration with stakeholders and guest contributions, they achieve significant positive impacts. Their latest project, focusing on the Usangu Wetlands in Tanzania's Ruaha National Park, aims to promote sustainable tourism while preserving the region's unique ecosystem and biodiversity, ensuring long-term benefits to conservation and local communities. A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
