About Omatendeka Lodge

An elegant and exclusive desert lodge in a remote untouched wilderness.
Omatendeka Lodge is a new addition to Namibia’s luxury desert lodge portfolio, and offers an exclusive and unique safari experience. Located in the wilds of northern Damaraland, between the harsh western deserts and the chalky pans of the game-rich Etosha National Park, the lodge itself is positioned near oasis-like natural springs, the source of the Hoanib River and a vital lifeline for the desert-adapted wildlife. The nine eco-friendly suites have been beautifully designed to blend in with the arid landscape and create an elegant haven in this stark and pristine wilderness. Sounds like heaven...

Property details

The property

The main area of the lodge has a contemporary feel, with natural rock walls and vast overhead platforms providing an unusual means of shelter from the sun. The open-sided lounge, bar and dining space is beautifully positioned on an elevated deck facing out across the desert and natural springs, which attract a steady stream of wildlife. A swimming pool and sun deck at the edge of the camp mirrors the oasis-like feel of the springs in this otherwise unforgiving landscape.

The rooms

There are nine beautifully-constructed double or twin suites set along a rocky ridge, and constructed in an eco-friendly way from naturally sourced rock and timber. Each is en-suite, with elegantly styled interiors and a restful blend of desert-inspired tones and textures. The suites are protected from the sun by freeform roofs with generous overhangs. Private decks face out over the desert plains below, and offer a sublime vantage point for daytime game viewing and evenings gazing at the starry skies.

Activities

The natural springs are a magnet for wildlife, and daily game drives into the surrounding wilderness offer the opportunity to track and find some of the desert-adapted wildlife such as black rhino, elephant, giraffe and oryx. Guided nature walks give a closer look at the smaller and equally intriguing insects and reptiles. Damaraland is renowned for its iconic Himba tribes, and cultural visits to the remote settlements provide an insight into their way of life, unchanged for thousands of years.
