About Onguma Camp Kala

Gorgeous suites, conservation-focused, and a coveted location right next to a waterhole.
Sitting snuggly next to a very popular waterhole in the Onguma Nature Reserve, Camp Kala is a masterpiece. The brainchild of well-known architect, Nick Plewman, the camp blends almost entirely into its surroundings, its central circular tower emulating an enormous termite mound! There are just four suites, making the experience feel exclusive and totally personal. Join the fantastic guides on wildlife-spotting drives and walks, or get comfortable at one of the viewpoints round camp and watch the animals arrive to drink at the waterhole. And, if you needed another reason to love Onguma, your stay contributes to their private anti-poaching unit.

Property details

The property

The main lodge is multi-levelled and mostly wall-less for optimum views from the bar, lounge and dining area , and there's even an open-plan show kitchen too. The interior stylings were taken care of by Fox Browne Creative, who have worked their magic to create a plush yet earthy look, including a large black marble coffee table, woven light fixtures, and mirrors surrounded by porcupine quills. Front and centre, the firepit is on the main deck, where you'll spend many happy evenings listening to stories and the sounds of the bush.

The rooms

In entirely separate thatched structures, linked by stilted walkways, the suites are beautifully decorated with walls of glass revealing impeccable views of the waterhole and beyond - even from the bathtub. Speaking of which, a hand-stitched curtain separates it from the bedroom, and there's an outdoor shower for those warm summer nights. Outside, each suite has a spacious deck boasting a private firepit, wood-fired hot tub, plunge pool and shady sala with a King-size day bed, perfect for siestas or sleepouts. And, while you may want to switch off entirely, there is Wi-Fi in all rooms.

Activities

Explore the 34,000-hectare reserve on game drives (including full-day or sunset excursions) or fascinating bush walks with the seasoned guides and learn to decipher pawprints and droppings, and encounter animals on foot. You could also venture into nextdoor Etosha in the hopes of spotting black and white rhino. In your down time, enjoy a dip in the your private plunge pool, indulge in a massage, or simply wait and see what wildlife comes to visit the waterhole...
