Pelo Camp

The camp opened in 2013, making it the newest camp in the Jao concession. Situated under wild date palms, the main area consists of a tented dining section, a comfy lounge area, a bar, and a plunge pool. The back of the tent has a shaded verandah that looks out onto the channel and floodplains - an ideal chill pad, a sundowner spot, and a place to relax and escape the heat of the day. The outdoor boma area is perfect for fireside stories and drinks.

With a focus on comfort rather than luxury, the five simply-furnished en-suite guest tents have just the right amount space, homely comfort and African wildness. Sand pathways link them to the welcoming and social main area. The level of privacy is good, as the tents are well spread out, with thick palm foliage hiding them from one another. Each tent has a covered front veranda with fold out chairs, and an outdoor shower for a true wilderness experience.

Pelo Camp offers a rustic, water-based experience that will appeal to intrepid travellers intent on exploring the waterways of the Okavango Delta. Due to its island location, Pelo does not offer game drives, but the standard of the water experiences more than make up for this. Activities include relaxing meanders by mokoro (dugout canoe), boat trips, catch and release fishing, and walks on the sandy islands where guests can learn about the cultural history of the River Bushmen.
