At the centre of most activity is the Octagon Ocean Club, a lively hub with 360-degree views of the park and lapping sea; station yourself here at sunset for a real treat and then tuck into plates of fresh seafood, Asian-inspired dishes and international fare. For a laid-back, open-air dining experience, head for the Kinandari Kitchen or deck and admire the views of Menjangan Island and the distant Java Mountains. In your down time, enjoy libations at the ocean-front infinity pool bar or indulge in a massage at the spa.
The resort has a collection of traditional Joglo villas, either nestled in the forest or hushed mangroves, but always enjoying a view of the ocean. All have four-poster beds draped in mosquito nets, large wooden desks, and beautifully-painted doors. The bathrooms are spacious and semi-outdoor with huge stone or clawfoot tubs. The larger villas have a more prominent lounge area and kitchenette, while the two-bedroom retreat has a connected terrace and its own patch of garden. For added privacy, book the Founder's Home, which has a selection of exclusive curated activities and culinary experiences.
There's plenty of adventure to be had at the Plataran Menjangan, including snorkelling straight the jetty, watersports, and ocean-going cruises. Diving is also very special, and there are number of dive sites off Menjangan Island, ranging from shipwrecks to impressive drop-offs. But make sure to carve out the time to explore some of the land features of West Bali National Park and seek out the rare Bali starling with a guide. You could also pay a visit to the Pura Sakti Pejarakan Temple to experience the Melukat purification ritual.
Superlative snorkelling, diving, and exquisite hotels, far, far away from the tourist track.
