The airy buildings are built from traditional wood and palm fronds, with charming boardwalks to connect them all. The large dining room sits side by side with the jungle bar in the main building, where tart and tasty Pisco sours are always on offer. WiFi is available when electricity is on, which is a luxury in itself considering the location, and there are plenty of hammocks around for snoozing or reading a book from the library. Meals are casual and simple but delicious, with local ingredients always the hero.
The rooms, built and decorated with local wood, are generous in size. The open wall faces the forest greenery and gives a true feeling of being immersed in the Amazon - and the in-room hammock is the perfect place to take in all the views and sounds. The beds of course have mosquito nets and the spacious bathrooms come with complimentary biodegradable toiletries. Electricity is limited to certain times of day and turned off by 10pm - just in time for bed.
There are enough activities available to keep you busy for days, just take your pick! What sets Posada Amazonas apart are the cultural activities on offer, including spending a day with the Ese’Eja community. Otherwise, go out to the nearby oxbow lake in search of giant river otters and piranha (catch & release) fishing, hike through the jungle in search of wildlife and giant ceiba trees, kayak down the river and spot caimans, or visit the clay lick for an amazing sight of kaleidoscopic parrots.
