About Potato Bush Camp

A tiny bush camp tucked away in a genuine, unspoiled Lower Zambezi wilderness area.
Overlooking the confluence of the Chifungulu Channel and the mighty Zambezi River, Potato Bush Camp couldn't be in a better location to discover the magic of the Lower Zambezi. How you do it is up to you however, and there's game drives, walking safaris, canoe expeditions and even a scenic boat trip or two to choose from. Don't underestimate the tiny, four room camp either. You're in extremely capable hands, whether relaxing in camp or adventuring through the bush, and the team of guides, managers and hosts, not least the excellent muchindas (personal attendants) are fabulous in every way.

Property details

The property

The large open-plan lounges and dining area, or 'The Boma', cleverly combine traditional design with chic lines and varied textiles, creating a simple yet totally comfortable space to relax in during the day. One long wooden table hosts communal meals and the well-stocked bar is always open for service. In the mornings and evenings, make a beeline for the campfire, right on the bank of the river, for the most marvellous sunrises and sunsets.

The rooms

Potato Bush is a what we call a real bush camp - intimate and cosy with only three double tents and one family tent. Doubles are spacious and light with beautiful moulded stone floors and a small partitioning wall separating the bathroom from the enormous king-size beds. All have ensuites with double showers, double basins and a bathtub. Each also has a lovely large deck with a plunge pool and cowhide hammock, for the ultimate in siesta luxury. Family tents are much the same but with two tents, connected by a shared lounge.

Activities

Explore the bush by foot, on a canoe, a motorboat, or on the back of a Jeep - day or night. This region of the Lower Zambezi is as diverse as it beautiful, and exploring it in different ways is all part of the fun. As for wildlife, expect an equally diverse range, from elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo to African wild dog, civet and porcupine. The guides are superb - well-trained, professional and engaging, and have an expert sense of how activities should fit together to create a well-rounded holiday.

The rooms feel quite solid for a little bush camp – very handy if it happens to rain, but they might not be to everyone’s taste.
