Quirky paintings and decor give Purity plenty of character, a lovely contrast with the pristine interiors. Enjoy creative takes on local cuisine and more continental fare at the Purity Kitchen, where you can also upgrade your cooking skills with an interactive session. The spa offers a range of Ayurvedic treatments and mornings are off to a good start with yoga under the shade of a mango tree. There are plenty of sitting areas in the garden to enjoy the view including cushy loungers round the two pools.
Purity has a selection of rooms each with an ornate bed, pops of pink decor and a veranda overlooking the lake. All rooms come with an en-suite bathroom decked out in green marble, a sunken bath and large mirrors; and there are three wellness Garden suites with room for a spa bed. The four Vembanad suites have a plush lounge area and large concertina doors opening onto the patio. The grandest suite occupies the entire first floor of the heritage wing!
Purity has quite the selection of activities beginning with a cruise on the resident houseboat including a stop at Patharamanal Island and a high tea. Visit the 18th-century Krishna Puram Palace, famous for its ornate woodwork and murals, and watch as craftsmen use ancient metal work techniques to create bells and lamps. On a trip to nearby Kuttanad, join locals at their 100-year-old home for a traditional lunch and see the famous toddy tapping from the tops of palm trees.
Pick a rice boat and cruise languidly around the bohemian backwaters, watching the world go by.
