Property details

The property

A great combination of style and comfort, set in spacious adjoining tents overlooking the flowing waters of the Talek River. The lounge is characterised by neutral colours, soft couches and an inviting style that is synonymous with the rest of the camp. The dining section consists of a banquet style table with fold out chairs. These communal areas look out onto the glowing campfire and the rolling wilderness.

The rooms

Rekero Camp has nine well appointed en-suite tents, two of which are slightly larger and serve as family accommodation. Each tent is evenly spaced along the water’s edge presenting uninterrupted views and a feeling of total bush seclusion. The decor and layout is understated but stylish, with great comfort. Spend the afternoon hours relaxing on your private daybed, watching as the bush unfolds.

Activities

Game drive is the primary focus of this region, with knowledgeable local guides sweeping you along on a journey of discovery. Spend a day in the bush picnicking in the wilds before continuing on your expedition into the great unknown. An hour from camp, at an extra cost, the local Maasai village provides insights into the rich history and culture of this local tribe. Bush walks are taken from camp illuminating the smaller and often missed creatures of this environment. If this doesn’t satisfy your desire for adventure, walking safaris are available but are a 2 hour drive from camp at an extra charge.

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

The camp is one of the first to see the wildebeest of the migration as they gallop across from Tanzania. There is a fabulous crossing point about 20 metres from camp, making for epic wildebeest-watching quite literally on the doorstep.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Some elements of the camp may feel a little old-fashioned. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the camp has a (winning) formula and they definitely stick to it.

The impact of your stay

Rekero Camp is owned by Asilia Africa who pioneers sustainable investments in vulnerable East African wilderness areas, fostering conservation economies for local communities and increasing biodiversity. Through collaboration with stakeholders and guest contributions, they achieve significant positive impacts. Their latest project, focusing on the Usangu Wetlands in Tanzania's Ruaha National Park, aims to promote sustainable tourism while preserving the region's unique ecosystem and biodiversity, ensuring long-term benefits to conservation and local communities. A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
