About River Manor Boutique Hotel & Spa

A graciously restored boutique hotel and spa in famous wineland territory
River Manor is a National Heritage Monument, one of Stellenbosch’s original smaller boutique hotels in two separate manor houses which have been beautifully restored in colonial Cape Dutch style typical of this historic wineland region. It has eighteen comfortable guest rooms set back from the road within tranquil gardens, with an on-site spa and wellness centre. Situated along a quiet oak-lined avenue on the banks of the Eerste River, this is a great choice of convenient and comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation within a few minutes’ walking distance to the heart of town and its lively street café culture.

Property details

The property

The reception area leads into the foyer, with a beautiful stained glass skylight above the main hallway, and original wooden stairways leading to the upper floor. Downstairs is a comfortable bar, two guest lounges and a small library. The wraparound veranda and rooftop terrace faces out onto the landscaped gardens with two swimming pools, a secluded wellness spa, and several shady seating areas. Breakfasts and light deli-style meals are served in the dining room, or next to the pool.

The rooms

There are eighteen en-suite guest rooms at River Manor which vary in size from larger superior rooms with baths and showers, to smaller classic, standard and petite rooms, some with showers only. The décor is relaxed country style, with an understated feeling of luxury and a combination of vintage wooden furniture and calm neutral tones together with splashes of colour and African artefacts. Modern amenities include satellite television, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and a mini-bar with home-made snacks.

Activities

Stellenbosch is home to some of South Africa’s best vineyards and gourmet restaurants, and wine tasting tours are naturally the top attraction. This area is also renowned for its challenging mountain bike tracks and hiking trails. Stunning nature reserves offer wildlife and birdwatching opportunities, and horse riding can be arranged from the hotel, together with a variety of tailor-made day trips. The championship Pearl Valley golf course is nearby, and the historic Franschhoek Valley is a short drive away.
