Traditional, apex-style buildings are dotted around the grounds including the Pavilion dining area and bar which has a simple setting and a cushy lounge. Tuck into an array of local and international cuisine including the likes of coconut and crab risotto or barbecue on the lawns. The large and enticing pool is lined with shaded loungers and at the far end, you'll find the spa pavilion where you can enjoy a massage - or book a private yoga session in the garden.
Decorated with bunches of purple lotus flowers in brass vases and quirky artwork, most rooms at Rock Villa come with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with a rain shower. Ranging in size and colour scheme, the villa also has a selection of suites, which each have a pool, day bed and shared dining pavilion. As the original manor house, the Walauwa Suite is the largest and has two bedrooms with canopied beds, a private patio and pool, and a kitchenette.
Across the railway line and through a fringe of mangrove trees, you'll find a sunny beach dotted with loungers where staff are ready with ice water. If you're at the villa in nesting season, enjoy nighttime walks to see the hatching turtles. Just down the coast, Bentota River is a hive of water activity including jet skiing and banana boat rides. The coastal lagoon is perfect for wind surfing and off the coast, there are plenty of diving spots with stellar marine life. Travel a bit further inland to visit the Bawa brothers' famous gardens or the Kande Viharaya temple with its ornate statues and colourful frescoes.
