About Rosewood Luang Prabang

A lush, jungled retreat with a sumptuous design set a little outside the city.
Romantic, remote, and utterly heavenly are all words that could be used to describe the delicious Rosewood Luang Prabang. Whilst most hotels in the area focus on the ancient city itself, the Rosewood sits on the palm-fringed outskirts and definitely makes the most of its distance. The beautiful design perfectly blends with the surrounding scenery, and you'll delight as you stumble across burbling streams and tumbling waterfalls in the grounds. If you can bear to tear yourself away from your chic suite, cooling pool and lush gardens, you'll find all manner of incredible activities to enjoy in Luang Prabang and further afield. Can you tell we love this one?

Property details

The property

Head upstream to the Sense Spa for a traditional Laotian treatment and peek through the glass floor to watch the river whilst you're on the massage table. For cooling off after a busy day, there's no better spot than the pool, located smack-bang in the middle of the gardens and surrounded by shady cabanas and plenty of sleek black loungers. When the munchies call, it's all about the farm-to-tale Great House restaurant. With everything from exquisite breakfast baskets to 5-course dinners, the menu focuses on ancient royal cooking techniques and the freshest of flavours.

The rooms

The 23 rooms at the Rosewood were designed by renowned interiors guru Bill Bensley, and combine French colonial elements with traditional Laotian design, plenty of big, bold colours and lots of sumptuous fabrics. There are riverside suites and waterfall villas, but those looking for something a little different will fall in love with the hilltop tents, luxurious canvas affairs that sit in line with the treetops and offer spectacular, far-reaching views.

Activities

As well as the bespoke activities (see above), there are plenty of 'off the shelf' activities to enjoy in and around the Rosewood including cookery classes, heritage walks, waterfall adventures and food tours. Hop on a scenic river cruise and travel upstream to the Pak Ou caves, packed with statues and drawings of Buddha, or cruise at sunset and enjoy moreish canapés and a wine tasting. And of course, there are the beautiful temples, architecture and markets of Luang Prabang to enjoy too.

The Elephant Bar, perched on a bridge and covered in hand-carved elephant statues, is an iconic spot for an aperitif. If you're feeling daring, ask the barman to mix you his favourite...

With gentle slopes running through the resort and steep steps leading to some rooms, it's not the most mobility friendly spot.
