About Serian's Serengeti Lamai

An authentic camp in the heart of the Great Migration action
There are plenty of camps scattered throughout the Serengeti, all in prime locations for watching the marvels of the Great Migration - but none are quite like the Serian camps! This one, Serian's Serengeti Lamai, is located a mere kilometre away from Crossing Point Four on the Mara River - the true wildlife hotspot of the northern Serengeti. Open year round (except April and May), you'll be in the perfect spot to watch the wildebeest make their heart-stopping journey across the water. And the action doesn't stop further away from the river either, with inconceivably large herds of gnus wandering the plains, amongst fantastic numbers of lion, cheetah, elephant - and more.

Property details

The property

A Meru-style tent in the centre of camp is home to the dining area, lounge and bar. Velvet chairs beckon you to take a seat and gaze at the views of the river and bush beyond, and there's also a small library if you can tear your eyes away from the action. Meals are served family-style at the large dining table - an excellent time to meet fellow travellers and share your stories - and the all-important fire pit is just to the side, when you're ready to retire with a night cap.

The rooms

Eight intimate tents and two family suites are kept cool under the branches of the magnificent acacias - take advantage of the shade and sit outside on your veranda, binos in hand. Inside you'll find pretty, wrought-iron beds, writing desks and lots of storage space, and woven rugs and colourful cushions add a touch of Serian character. Bathrooms are ensuite with flushing loos and inside/outside showers. Serene environment with no Wi-Fi, encouraging a digital detox experience.

Activities

With your own open-top cruiser and expert guide, how you spend your days at Lamai is completely up to you. Head out early in the morning and munch your packed picnic breakfast with one eye on the action in the river - in fact, take a picnic lunch too and you won't miss a thing! When you've had your wildebeest fix, explore further afield and watch out for rhino, lion and cheetah, or embark on a walking safari with one of the exceptionally knowledgable guides.

The impact of your stay

Serengeti Lamai is owned by Alex Walker's Serian, and founded on a profound respect for Kenya and Tanzania's wildernesses and cultures. Central to their ethos is preserving these areas by managing human interaction with wildlife. As populations grow and resources strain, Serian emphasizes making conservation profitable for locals. Note: a conservancy fee applies but is not included in the nightly rate.
