About Sosian Lodge

Ride horseback under Mt Kenya's gaze at a ranch plucked out of time and lovingly restored.
Born out of an original 1940s design, the ranch has been beautifully re-done to meet its modern visitors, while still holding tightly to its vintage charm. Set on a 24,000 acre wildlife reserve in the Laikipia Highlands, Sosian Lodge offers a plethora of different ways to explore the area! Ride on horseback across the Laikipia plateau amongst herds of zebra, elephant and buffalo; or opt for game drives to spot bat-eared foxes, wild dogs, lion and leopard in true wilderness. There is a harmony between community, conservation and wildlife that extends to the sunny service in a ranch with the distinct feel of home.

Property details

The property

The ranch has been restored with care and updated from the early vision of its Italian designers. Manicured gardens surround the stone walled and thatched roofed main house that opens up to a large verandah overlooking the bushveld and a expansive dining table where you gather in the mornings and evenings for shared meals. It is a snug and welcoming space; cozy fireplaces, large cushioned chairs and shady corners to take in the most of the surrounds.

The rooms

The seven rooms are split between four cottages of various sizes, dotted throughout the lush gardens with views of Mount Kenya. Set amongst the Fever trees, the expansive outdoor verandahs and cedar-wood deck chairs provide just the right amount of privacy without feeling totally removed. Each of the rounded en-suite cottages are neat and welcoming with light wooden furnishing complimented by local rugs and distinct Kenyan decorative elements. Relax with the luxuries of home in the heart of the African bush.

Activities

Horseback safaris are very popular in this region and Sosian is renowned for running a very efficient and put together operation. The seven day tailored itinerary is a must for horse lovers. There are also plenty of activities aside from horse riding, including daily game drives, fishing, tennis courts and a swimming pool. You can even take part in some of the day to day activities involving the cattle.
