About Steenberg Hotel

Stately charm on an old Cape vineyard with a world-class golf course
This elegant five-star hotel is surrounded by the vineyards of Cape Town's oldest farm – granted by Governor Simon van der Stel way back in 1682. Steenberg lies in the peaceful, picture-perfect valley of Constantia, one of the city's most upmarket suburbs, a 20-minute drive from downtown. You're removed from the bustle, but still within easy reach of the action. There's a host of attractions even closer to Steenberg than they are to the CBD (Cape Point, penguins at Boulder's Beach, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Kalk Bay). Plus, of course, award-winning wines and the top-rated golf course right on your doorstep.

Property details

The property

The hotel's original 17th-century buildings have been restored with great care. They're certainly striking to look at – white-washed Cape Dutch architecture set against vineyards and the peninsula's distinctive mountains. Inside, old blends seamlessly with modern. Some sitting rooms are Victorian in style; another is more modern, with a lovely stone fireplace. Several terraces are perfect for view-dreaming, and there are two pools, several dining options, a champagne bar and wine-tasting room, gym, spa, and that famous 18-hole golf course.

The rooms

The 21 luxury rooms include a family room and a honeymoon suite, and three larger Heritage Suites. The interiors are modern, coupled with a rustic farm-like feel, and splashes of African decor and colour. Aircon, wi-fi, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a minibar come standard. En-suite bathrooms are large and super-stylish, with deep bathtubs and beautiful wooden furnishings. Most rooms have private patios that face the vineyards or the golf course (depending on your preference).

Activities

Cape Town's attractions are legendary. On the doorstep are the vineyards of the Constantia Valley, and some glorious hikes. Head to the city to summit Table Mountain by cable car. Sun- and surf-lovers will relish the plethora of white-sand beaches that fringe the peninsula. Explore Cape Point or the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Add to that a world of restaurants, bars and cool cafes in and around the city, and you won't be starved for things to do, see and eat!
