A fusion of laid-back luxury and contemporary style, the main areas at the Strandloper are all bleached wood, high ceilings and plenty of shimmering glass and light. Relax on the open-air terrace and dip into the outdoor pool in summer, or cosy up in front of the roaring fire in winter. But if the idea of leaving your sanctuary doesn’t appeal then don’t worry—the on-site restaurant serves sumptuous breakfasts and elegant dinners, with light lunches and afternoon tea in between.
Of the 13 exquisite suites, 5 face the ocean and the others look out over the nature reserve but all have private terraces or courtyards, huge wooden doors and vast windows from which to soak up the picturesque surroundings. Bathrooms are a delight and there’s outdoor rain showers, huge tubs and steaming hot internal showers to choose from. Our hot tip is Oceanus, the largest and most beautiful private suite overlooking both the ocean and the natural landscape, perfect for honeymooners.
There’s plenty to keep you entertained in Paternoster, from the art galleries that line the streets to the mouth-watering selection of restaurants. Explore the area on foot or by bike, or take to the water in a kayak and search for whales and dolphins. Further afield, nature buffs will appreciate the birds of the Langebaan Lagoon or the wildlife of Tittiesbaai Nature Reserve, both a short drive down the coast. Or simply relax in simple, seaside luxury… we would!
