With a light-filled dining room (food is very good, and dinner is a three-course affair) and lounge, Guinea Fowl's common spaces are warm and inviting. Someone has a good eye for colour and mid-century modern sensibilities – eclectic furnishings come together to create a real sense of atmosphere. Outside, the spacious garden encourages sunning on the grass, and the wide veranda is an ever-popular spot to enjoy a cold one or a hot cup of Ugandan coffee.
Accommodation is in single and double deluxe rooms, family rooms (with adjoining bathrooms), and self-contained apartments (one with a kitchenette). All are spotlessly clean, with tiled floors, high ceilings, and simple decor highlighted with splashes of vibrant local prints. The netted beds are comfortable, and the en-suite bathrooms have a shower and bath. There's wi-fi, should you need to stay connected.
The Guinea Fowl is typically used as a stopover by travellers moving to and from Uganda's national parks and reserves. (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a bucket-lister for sure. Its majestic forested landscapes are home to nearly half the world's population of mountain gorillas.) We recommend you stay at the lodge for a day or two to enjoy the variety of pleasant, low-key outdoor activities: cruising on Lake Victoria, browsing the craft markets, or wandering the botanical gardens.
Uganda's second capital is a hassle-free town with pretty gardens and Lake Victoria to explore.
