Tintswalo Atlantic is tucked away by the ocean at the foot of a winding private driveway below the famous Chapman’s Peak. Sheltered in a pebbled cove in Table Mountain National Park, Tintswalo looks out across Hout Bay, just a few minutes’ drive from this lively harbour town, yet feels remote and secluded. This boutique hotel is an opulent tribute to its stunning natural surroundings, skilfully crafted from timber and glass to make the most of its spectacular coastal setting. Ten suites, plus a vast hillside double suite, offer lavish accommodation in a beautiful spot within easy reach of Cape Town and its endless attractions.
The main guest area is centred around a vast open-plan dining room and lounge, lavishly decorated with chandeliers and elegant furniture, with a cosy fireplace. Vast glass panels open out onto the timber deck, with the ocean just a few metres below. A state-of-the-art interactive kitchen offers guests the chance to watch the chefs at work and pick up a few tips. Wooden walkways and hidden paths lead to the heated swimming pool at the far end of the lodge.
The ten double suites are set along the shoreline and all are designed in an island-style theme. The decor is magnificent throughout: personally crafted artworks hang on the walls and there’s a unique feel of bygone glamour but with all the modern comforts. All rooms are en-suite and have stunning views of Hout Bay, but Antigua, Cousine and Java are closest to the water if you want to really live on the edge (!). The sumptuous hillside Presidential Suite has two double suites joined by a spacious lounge and living area, and offers an exquisite private refuge for up to four guests at a time.
Cape Town has something to suit everyone, from outdoor adrenalin-fuelled adventures, to cultural experiences, fine dining and world-class shopping in the Mother City. Tintswalo Atlantic is in a prime position for exploring all of these options, and the friendly lodge staff are always happy to suggest some exciting ways to see the Cape from a local's point of view. Table Mountain National Park offers fabulous hiking, with pristine fynbos reserves, secluded beaches and fantastic surf spots all within easy reach.
The impeccable attention to detail and luxury at every turn – and the picture-perfect views across Hout Bay, the Atlantic, and the dramatic mountain backdrop must also have an honourable mention.
When you leave, take a pebble from the bowl by the front door and throw it into the waves of the Atlantic, wishing compulsory!
It’s not a long drive to the city centre, but you might not want to trek backwards and forwards every day – just something to bear in mind if you’ve never been to the city before and want to take in all the sights and sounds.
