Topas was built with the aim to leave the lightest footprint but the largest impact, with an almost entirely local staff, and sustainable ingredients used in every meal. You'll mostly dine at the Stilt House, original Tay structures carefully transplanted, which serves a medley of Vietnamese flavours. At the alfresco Pavilion, enjoy delicacies grilled over an open fire, and for a designer coffee or cocktail, head to The Lounge. There are two saltwater pools, one beside the bar and the other, an adults-only spot with a Jacuzzi. Indulge in traditional Red Dzao remedies, Sapa chocolate body polishes, and Tibetan massages at the thatched spa.
There are 41 bungalows, each positioned to take full advantage of the breathtaking views. Their chalky tones and Scandinavian furnishings make for a relaxing atmosphere, further cemented by the giant stone bathtubs and rainfall showers, sunny terraces and gardens, and the peaceful absence of a TV or Wi-Fi. Each suite has a large bed draped in netting; some have two-levels and others are fitted with the latest eco-friendly tech including heated floors. To save on waste, remember to bring your own toiletries and toothbrushes.
In Sapa, there's only one thing on the to do list - hiking! A maze of scenic trails await, including the most famous, Mt Fansipan, the highest peak in South East Asia. You'll also have the chance to venture into the valley forests to sit beside a rushing waterfall, stop off in Nam Pa for a BBQ lunch amidst the rice paddies, and visit the Red Dzao community to learn about the traditions of this ancient hill tribe.
Views for days, walking, and a wealth of colour and culture in the ‘Tonkinese Alps.’
