The main area is connected to the rest of the camp by a series of raised wooden walkways. Canvas sides roll up, making for uninterrupted views of the ocean in front, and the palm forest behind. Colourfully painted chairs sit around wooden tables, and the adjoining open-plan lounge has several wicker chairs and slouchy sofas, ideal for view-gazing. Fifty metres back from the beach, a stunning rim-flow pool is accompanied by an open-sided bar, complete with locally-made hammocks and sun-loungers.
There are four well-spaced casas that sleep a total of 12 guests. One can accommodate a family of five, one is a triple and the other two, doubles. Canvas sides, wooden floors and thatched roofs are uncomplicated but stylish, and inside, the decor is pure beach-chic. King, queen or twin beds are draped with mosquito nets and each has an ensuite bathroom, with separate toilet and outdoor shower, a wooden deck with swaying hammocks and 180 degree views of the bluer-than-blue ocean.
Diving off Mozambique's coast is some of the best in the world, with pristine coral reefs teeming with life and ocean giants like whale sharks and mantas in attendance. Travessia can organise your diving trip or an ocean safari with one of the experienced operators in Inhambane (about an hour and a half away). The lodge also has an inflatable kayak and a canoe for use at low tide (when the waves are a bit calmer) and a few body boards to surf the beach break. Alternatively, grab a fat-tyred beach cruiser and go for a bike ride along the beach, or just chill by the pool and gaze out at the Indian Ocean.
Walk along Tofo’s sweeping beaches, dive amongst manta rays and dugong, and explore the sleepy town.
