About Tree Tops Safari Lodge

An elevated escape where you'll sleep amongst the treetops and wake to birdsong.
Some properties promise you'll feel at one with nature – this one actually delivers by hoisting you up into the canopy itself. Constructed entirely within the embrace of towering indigenous trees, this luxury tented camp offers five canvas suites that quite literally give you a bird's-eye-view of the world below. The elevated walkways connecting each pavilion make you feel rather like you're navigating some wonderfully sophisticated treehouse village, whilst the active waterhole visible from the main deck provides endless entertainment courtesy of the local wildlife. It's particularly beloved by serious birders who come hoping to spot the rather splendid Knysna Turaco - an emerald-green beauty that's notoriously camera-shy but absolutely worth the wait.

Property details

The property

The main lodge area feels like an elegant forest pavilion, with its spacious lounge flowing onto an open-air dining deck that overlooks the waterhole activity below. The thoughtful positioning means you can observe wildlife without disturbing the natural rhythms of the forest, and the sustainable design ensures minimal environmental impact. The elevated walkways that connect everything create a sense of adventure whilst providing stunning valley views at every turn. There's something rather magical about dining al fresco whilst perched in the treetops, watching the forest come alive around you.

The rooms

Each of the five canvas suites is positioned to maximise both privacy and views, with large windows that frame the wooded valley like living artwork. The thatched roofs and natural materials create spaces that feel authentically African whilst the modern amenities ensure contemporary comfort. Private balconies extend each suite into the canopy itself, providing intimate outdoor spaces where you can sit quietly and watch the forest inhabitants go about their daily business. The double-insulated canvas walls create surprisingly cosy interiors, whilst en-suite bathrooms with walk-in showers add a touch of luxury to the bush experience. Coffee stations mean you can brew your morning cup and take it straight out onto your private deck to greet the day properly.

What you'll love

What you'll love

Waking up in the forest canopy with nothing but canvas between you and the dawn chorus. The proximity to the waterhole means you'll often drift off to sleep to the gentle sounds of nocturnal visitors coming down for a drink.
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Pack your binoculars and settle onto the main deck just before dawn with a steaming cup of coffee. The early morning light filtering through the forest canopy is magical, and the wildlife activity around the waterhole is at its most dynamic.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Those elevated walkways, whilst utterly charming, do mean a fair bit of up-and-down navigation throughout the day. It's all part of the treehouse experience, but worth bearing in mind if mobility is a concern.
