Tsowa Safari Island

Wooden decks stretch beneath towering jackalberry trees, creating dining and lounging spaces that accommodate just 16 guests at most. The adjacent bar tent flows onto that Instagram-worthy sunken fire pit suspended over the Zambezi, where sundowners are a nightly ritual, and an open-air dining area serves superb meals, prepared as you watch. Two pools beckon during the heat of the day, while forest pathways lead through the baobabs - and perhaps to a resident pair of Pel's fishing owls.

The eight safari tents are perched on elevated decks beneath the trees, each positioned for maximum privacy and Zambezi views. The largest – a honeymoon tent on its secluded spur – offers views downstream where wildlife roams freely. All rooms have both indoor bathrooms and outdoor showers (because who doesn't want to rinse off while watching the river flow?), king-size beds, and private verandahs perfect for morning coffee and evening game viewing. Natural materials and raw textures create an effortless explorer-chic vibe, whilst crisp white linens are very welcome at the end of a long day exploring.

Game drives through Zambezi National Park reveal elephant herds, buffalo, giraffe, and (hopefully) the other residents of the Big Five, while guided bush walks offer intimate wildlife encounters (but you must be 16 and older). Water adventures include guided canoeing trips through gentle rapids (complete with riverside picnic lunches), sundowner cruises, and island walks amongst those magnificent baobabs.
