About Tswalu Loapi

A private staff & vehicle, people-free safaris and service that's second to none.
As South Africa's largest privately-owned reserve, Tswalu already has the edge on exclusivity and wide-open spaces, but Loapi takes it one step further with its all-encompassing 'homes'. Overlooking endless golden grasses and looming mountains, there are just six sleek and chic and fully-private residences crafted from glass, steel and canvas. The mostly local team – including a private chef, tracker and guide – ensures you quickly feel like family, and your private butler is always on hand to offer a cold towel after another exploration into the wilderness. And by that we mean everything from game drives to meerkat encounters...

Property details

The property

There are six private homes, spaced at least 50 metres apart for the ultimate levels of seclusion, each with their own kitchen, fully-stocked pantry, dining and living area, and bar. The chef can prepare (almost!) anything you like including tasty tapas, fresh salads for lunch and bush breakfasts complete with a cup of coffee and obligatory splash of Amarula. You'll also enjoy an outdoor firepit and plunge pool with astounding views of the Korannaberg Mountains and meandering landscape.

The rooms

There are four one-bedroom and two two-bedrooms houses spanning up to 400 spacious square metres. With wall-to-wall glass framing the stunning view, the bedroom is a cosy cocoon with a King-size canopy bed that opens onto a private deck. Interiors are full of warmth with cork adornments, camel and cream couches around an open fireplace, and tapestries by an Eswatini-based artist. The bathroom is mod and slick and includes an outdoor shower with a serious view.

Activities

As one of the few Malaria-free reserves in South Africa, Tswalu Kalahari is a fabulous location for family safaris. Wildlife sightings can be hard-won, however, but with a little patience you could spot wild dogs, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, brown hyenas and antelope like roan and sable on game drives. If luck is on your side, there are even pangolins and aardvark in the area. You can also spend time in the presence of a family of meerkats.

It is rare to spot another game vehicle on drives in Tswalu Kalahari and you'll feel like the only people for miles.

Something to think about

It's worth noting that while your private chef can readily whip up most things, certain ingredients may be unavailable due to the reserve's remoteness.
